Even though Barcelona is trendier, Madrid is still an amazing place to visit since it’s the capital of Spain and the home to so many of the country’s greatest attractions including the Royal Palace, Prado Museum, and Bernabeu Stadium. Madrid is also extremely important because of its food, historical accommodations, and lively attractions. Madrid offers a very reasonable climate throughout the entire year, making it so that visitors can easily visit the city anytime they want without experiencing extreme temperatures in either direction.
Though Madrid already offers reasonable prices to both locals and visitors on pretty much everything, there is a way to make your money last even longer than you would expect. At least, that’s what the company behind the new Go City Madrid Pass says. But does the pass really save you money? We’ll find that out and more, below. When you start looking into the Go Madrid Pass, you’ll see that there are various options to choose from. You’ll find that you can purchase 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 choice passes for both adults and children. Which, you’ll want to note that children prices are available for ages 3 to 12. If you are traveling with toddlers and infants, you won’t have to purchase a pass for them. This is because children this young tend to get into the area attractions on a free basis anyway.

Another important thing to note is that you have 60 days to use your Explorer pass, starting from the very first attraction you visit. That’s because the pass is activated when you visit your first attraction. You’ll also have one year from your purchase date until the pass expires. This means that if you buy the pass well before your vacation to Madrid, you’ll still be able to use it as long as you activate within a years time.

The short version
The Go City Madrid Pass has two main options, one where you pre-pay for a fixed number of attractions, and the other where you prepay for virtually unlimited access to 19 attractions in a fixed number of days. If you like to plan ahead and start early, the All-Inclusive Pass is almost guaranteed to save you money.
But if you don’t like the idea of leaving your hotel before 10 AM, the Explorer Pass is probably the better option because you’ll still be able to visit 2 major attractions each day and save a bunch of money in the process.
Top sights and attractions
Madrid highlights tour 2-hour bus and 1-hour walking tour – €33
This tour might be the best of all worlds for getting to know Madrid on your first visit, and hopefully on your first day. It starts with a one-hour walking tour of this historic area that is far better suited to exploring and hearing about on foot, and then you climb into an air-conditioned bus for a 2-hour tour of the remaining top highlights of the city. After those three hours you’ll know a LOT about Madrid and you’ll know where all of the top sights are and how to get back to them if you want to see them more fully.
Flamenco Show and Tapas Menu at Torres Bermejas – €50
A great attraction for those who enjoy a good show and live music, the Flamenco show includes 5 tapas dishes, dessert and a drink. Face it, you’ll want to see a Flamenco show when you visit Spain and especially Madrid, but do you really want to make a whole evening of it? This one gives you the show with a complimentary drink without having to commit the whole night.
Chocolate and Churros Segway Tour – €44
This one is pretty amazing for the right people. It’s a proper one-hour guided Segway tour with your own Segway, helmet, and safety vest plus a short training session. The tour itself takes you by many of Madrid’s top attractions including the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral, all at a brisk pace that you can’t get on foot when you can only go as fast as the slowest person in the group. Then, at the end, you stop at a traditional spot for Spain’s famous churros and a cup of thick hot chocolate to dip the churros into. Not a bad combination.
Bernabeu Stadium Tour – €52
Fans of European club football will realize how special this one is. Bernabeu Stadium is home to Real Madrid, the club where Cristiano Ronaldo set countless records during his long run that ended in 2018. Real Madrid has won the Champions League 14 times and is considered the most successful club in European football history. The tour of their home stadium is a really big deal for football fans, and still quite an experience for those just learning about the game.
Toledo and Segovia full-day tour – €69
Departing each day at 7:45 AM, this all-day tour leaving from Madrid covers two ancient cities where you will visit their medieval cathedrals, plazas, bridges and Roman aqueducts. Toledo in particular is a big highlight and many people do a day trip there when staying in Madrid anyway, so this one is perfect for those with an extra day in town.
Prado Museum Guided Tour – €50
Sort of the Louvre of Madrid, the Prado Museum is not only one of the world’s greatest art museums, but it’s housed in a gorgeous and historic building that is a big part of the attraction as well. You are definitely going to visit the Prado on your first visit to Madrid, and this pass allows you to skip the ticket queue and get a guided tour and then free time in the museum. These guided tours really help you understand what you are seeing much more deeply, but they are not for everyone.
Royal Palace Entrance and Guided Tour – €29
Long considered one of the city’s most popular attractions, the Royal Palace houses a Throne Room, the Royal Chapel, reception rooms, and the state rooms of King Carlos III and Queen Isabel II. In this tour, you’ll be granted entrance into the Royal Palace along with a walking tour around the palace with a guide. If you’d like, audio guides are available as well.
Is the Go Madrid Pass a good deal
In order for us to make sure to truly answer this question, we think it’s important to look at what the pass is, along with creating a sample itinerary. First, the pass itself is a pass designed to save you money while visiting Madrid, whether you’re buying one for just yourself, or for each member of your group, children included.
The Explorer pass allows visitors to save money when visiting a choice of 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 attractions out of an 25 (out of 28) attractions. But, in addition to money savings, you’ll also note that each pass includes information regarding the available attractions, from hours of operation to a map detailing where each attraction is. The Explorer Pass does NOT cover the Segovia tours or the Madrid Electric Bike Tour.
The All-Inclusive pass allows visitors to do 23 of the 28 attractions in 1 to 5 days, including all of the most popular ones. It can be a better deal for people who are well organized and want to see a lot in just a couple of sightseeing days.
Now that we’ve outlined what the pass is and what it includes, it’s time to take a look at a sample itinerary. This itinerary is for a 4 choice adult pass. Read below to see if the pass offers any savings, and if those savings are enough for the pass to be worth it.

You can then use this money toward a dinner out, accommodation upgrades, or transportation.
The obvious thing to consider is how interested you are in the included 25 attractions? Each of them is a classic sightseeing favorite of Madrid, but if you aren’t the type to visit a museum or do a Segway Tour, then the pass is not for you.

It would actually be pretty easy to see all of the above sights in two full sightseeing days as long as you plan ahead and get an early start. Are all of the attractions covered with the Go Madrid Pass worth a visit
When looking through the attraction and activity chooses included with the purchase of a pass, you’ll find that the answer is an easy yes! Even though the prices vary widely from attraction to attraction, they’re all popular attractions with great reviews.
You’ll also find that because they do vary, some are cultural and historic, while others are purely for fun, that each person in your group will find something they enjoy. This is particularly important if you’re traveling with family where everyone has different interests.
How not to use the Go Madrid Pass
Even though this pass has the ability to save you lots of money, if you don’t use it correctly, you’ll find that it’s not much of a money saver. By this we mean that you’ll want to visit attractions that are either a mixture of prices, or just the ones that cost the most if you were visiting them without the pass. If you include big ticket attractions in your attraction choices, then you should have no issue saving a nice amount of money. Another thing to keep in mind when choosing your attractions is that each attraction can only be visited once per pass. This means that if you purchase a 4 choice pass, you’ll need to visit 4 different attractions.
Even more importantly, you have to plan ahead and get an early start. It’s easy to see 3 things per day on an All-Inclusive pass if you do at least one of them before lunch. But if you are the type who sleeps in and doesn’t leave the hotel until 11 AM, the All-Inclusive Pass may not be for you. That said, the Explorer Pass could still be perfect because you can see one thing per day and still save.
The bottom line
When you purchase your pass, regardless if you purchase an Explorer or All-Inclusive Pass, you’ll want to focus on higher priced attractions and sights, instead of just visiting those that originally cost very little. If you do this, then you’ll find that the pass saves you a lot of money that you can use toward transportation options, a nice dinner or an accommodation upgrade.

Hi Roger, thank you for your informative post about the Go City Madrid All-Inclusive pass & Explorer pass.
Can you further advice or provide insights if this pass really works? As I saw quite a number of negative reviews that the pass can be cancelled by Go City without any notice and some listed tours rejected this pass as well as tours made reservations were cancelled at last minute (like on the day itself). Which made me doubt the credibility of the pass. I’m currently planning my Madrid trip, appreciated if you could further advice and provide insights, thank you!

I’ve used these passes dozens of times and have never had any problems like that. I know the company itself has a good reputation and I’ve used them countless times, but that said, I’m sure there can be instances where an attraction drops out of the program and pass holders might not be aware of it. The passes now all have updated apps that list all of the attractions and show hours and such. You should be able to download the app even without buying a pass and you’ll be able to see what it looks like and how each attraction works.
I just looked at some reviews and didn’t see anything like the ones you mentioned, although it’s possible to find negative reviews of anything. These are the sorts of things that if you buy it and it works just as they say, you are not going to write a review. But if something goes wrong people love to broadcast it as loud as they can. Maybe download the Go City app and choose the Madrid section and see how it looks to you? It should give you instructions on how to reserve tours and such in advance and hopefully the availability as well.
But again, if you are worried that it’s all a scam and that there’s a good chance of getting ripped off by buying and not being able to use it, I don’t think you have to worry about that. The company operates in like 30 or 40 cities and I’ve used many of them with them all working just as advertised. I hope that helps. -Roger
